The purpose of a backflow prevention device is to protect the public water supply system of the City of Salina from contamination due to backflow from any cross connection, which is any physical connection or arrangement between two (2) otherwise separate piping systems, one of which contains potable water and the other which contains water or any substance of unknown or questionable quality whereby there may be flow from one system to the other; to prohibit and eliminate all cross connections between a private water supply and the public water supply; and to provide for the maintenance of a continuing effective cross connection control program. This program shall include regularly scheduled inspections to detect and eliminate certain cross connections. The Utilities Department is responsible for conducting the cross connection control program.
