The Smoky Hill Museum Store is holding a meet the author and book signing on Saturday, November 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Local area author Patricia E. Ackerman will be on hand to sign copies of her book, Marymount College of Kansas: A History, which is available for purchase in the Museum Store.
Dr. Patricia Ackerman, a 1978 graduate of Marymount College who is now professor of language arts at Kansas State University, Salina, spent nearly four years researching for her book which will be released on November 18. She says of her work, “ This is the story of how one visionary religious community constructed a million dollar college for women, on the frontier plains of Kansas, even before the 19th amendment of the U.S. Constitution granted women the right to vote. It is the story of how a 17-year-old Irish immigrant girl became Reverend Mother Antoinette Cuff and went on to petition the Vatican for permission to complete Marymount College.”While picking up a copy at the Museum Store, be sure to check out all the other great Kansas items available.
