Arts Education Coordinator
PRISCILLA HOWE SCHOOL RESIDENCY
JANUARY 13 THROUGH 15
Educator and professional storyteller Priscilla Howe will present a second residency for the 2015-2016 school year at several Salina elementary schools Wednesday, January 13 through Friday, January 15. Her visit is made possible through the Arts Infusion Program of Salina Arts & Humanities. As a teaching artist, Howe will work with participating students on storytelling and writing applications.
A full-time storyteller since 1993, Howe loves visiting Salina where she has been a teaching artist for one week or more every year since 1997. She recently provided a five-day residency for USD 305 in December 2015, reaching more than 700 students in seven schools.
Howe will provide three days of enhanced learning in USD 305 elementary schools next week, performing her “Folktales from Around the World” with kindergarten through 2nd grade students, and also will lead storytelling through writing exercises with 4th and 5th graders.
Howe was selected as Salina’s first Sharon Benson Visiting Artist. Each year, the Sharon Benson Visiting Artist residency designates a teaching artist to provide educational programs and content that reflect cultural diversity while connecting the arts to new and established audiences in relevant ways.
